Public consultation meeting 30th April 08 in sector 16 of Noida

Community People, Partner NGOs, Street play team(SHODH),Volunteers & other NGOs

 

b)     Issue Covered:

The creation of a common platform of multi stakeholders in the concern of the city of Noida through public consultation

 

c)      Process Description:

The process for the same involved selecting an appropriate venue and contacting the resource persons through sending out invitation letters, The consultation began with the formal introduction by the organization team members and welcome to all participants. As stated in the background, this event was focused upon providing technical inputs which was provided by Md. Tariq from Toxics Link (an organization with relevant experience in the sector based at New Delhi). He explained some of the key elements of waste management such as identification and segregation of degradable and non bio-degradable waste. He explained the importance of waste management in the lives of poor settlements by showing examples as to how does it help in controlling spreading of diseases, provide a cleaner environment etc. based on this the discussion room was opened for all, from the residents side Mr. Md. Mustakim (Momin sahib, one of oldest resident of the settlement and active support provider) said that he shall himself take the responsibility to monitor that people do not throw waste in open and provide the same to the waste collector as provided by SHODH. Mr. Babu Lal and Mr. Rajendra Banewal also shared their concerns and said that the initiative is very important and that it could sustain only if we ensure self monitoring. There were some queries as asked by the participants to which the answers were provided by the experts. The media representatives took a round of the settlements and also conducted face to face interview/interaction with the local residents. The consolidation of the session was done by the organisation’s chief functionary Mr. Sujit Mridha who after thanking all invited them for witnessing a street play

  

d)     Outputs:

The consultation was attended by over 60 participants including different stakeholders.

Community sensitization and awareness received a next step through the technical inputs as

provided.

Media personnel were informed about the local initiative and requirements at the local level.
